I have been involved in education since 2002 when my own PE teachers told myself and a few friends if we wanted an after school basketball class we had to get the coaching qualifications and run it ourselves. Hardly looked back since! In 2009 I qualified with my BA in History and in 2011 achieved my teaching qualification and recognised professional status in I also completed a Masters degree in History, committed as I am to becoming not just a general historian but a specialist in my main topic areas. During this time, working in Guildford, Teesside and Liverpool I have developed strong experience and understanding of the requirements of achieving academic success. I have built links with exam boards and local universities giving me an insight into the skills desired. I recognise that the final destination/goal means different things to different people and bring a student focused, skills based approach to teaching/tutoring which should result in the student being well suited to either A Level, degree, or work place situations.

One of the things I hope to dispel in my students is any preconceived notions about whether they are suited to higher education or not and give them the confidence to make deliberate choices based on their own desires.

In the past I have taught: Mao and Communist China, Tsarist and Communist Russia, the Tudors, American Civil Rights, Women's rights in Britain and America, Witchcraft (the study of, not the practice of!) and my masters specialism of the Stuarts (17th century England) and Fascism (Italy, Weimar & Nazi Germany). Given the name of the topic and the exam board, I am able to provide targeted support to you regardless of how obscure the topic is. It is those transferable skills that are at the centre of an effective learning experience!

In recent years I have also been Subject Leader of Government and Politics, teaching both the UK and US systems according to AQA/Edexcel A Levels and NCUK foundation courses. We live in extraordinary times and there is so much about the subject to connect with! Politics IS everything.

I was declared the 'IT Champion' of my staffroom by colleagues and had my subject virtual learning environment pages used as a model for external sales pitches at a prior employer. This means I am ideally suited for enabling distance (online) learning. With technology as it is now, there is nothing standing in the way of the motivated student achieving to their fullest potential.

My message to prospective students, and anyone struggling with their study is that it is a process. Rome wasn't built in a day (it took several days to sack it too!), and trusting and acting on your regular teachers advice and the support of your tutor here on Findtutors will help you achieve the result you desire.
