I have around 200 hours of tutoring History over 3 years for IGCSE and A-Level students.

I can help with all aspects of the curriculum but I have a strong track-record for teaching essay techniques interwoven with a system of simplifying essay questions so that by the time of the exam your child will be able to regurgitate the relevant points with efficacy. I teach my essays as more of a rigid entity where each paragraph is designed to tick all of the boxes that the examiner is searching for. For example, easily missed by weaker students but linking each paragraph back to the question. I can aid with source analysis as this is crucial to establishing the credibility of one's argument. Without analysis of the provenance of the source, many candidates do not achieve the higher bands as their argument is unsupported. I conduct fact learning every week as this is crucial in establishing your knowledge to the examiner therefore, I conduct tests to check dates and facts. I do have a system to aid the student in memorisation. In terms of the coursework, My goal would be to review the themes present, condense the themes into working arguments, analyse the arguments with the student to uncover the most appropriate discourse, and to present a strong body of work by the end. My teaching largely focuses on going through the work with the students together. In this manner the student is actively participating in the learning the process rather than being talked at for an hour. I set short exercises in the session to cover the points for the lesson. This will culminate with a bit of homework which combines the techniques of the session. After every essay they do at school we go through the paper to see where we can improve. I also help with essay planning and revision and any requests from the students. My tutees have gone on to read history/humanities at Russell Group universities namely Bristol and Edinburgh.
