As an experienced researcher and educator of history, I understand that learning is not just about remembering subject knowledge, but a valuable skill that has real world application. History as a subject offers learners the ability to learn to think critically, to engage with complex subjects and to evaluate them from a range of perspectives in order to better understand them. We can learn from the past and apply this to the present or the future. Specialising in modern history, I frequently draw connections to contemporary events from the past - legacies of the World Wars, or the Cold War, or social movements from the 1960s, for example.
