My lessons are structured, engaging, and carefully tailored to suit each student’s individual goals, abilities, and learning style. At the beginning, I take time to understand what the student wants to achieve, whether that is strengthening their knowledge of specific historical topics, improving essay-writing skills, building confidence, or preparing effectively for exams. This allows me to plan focused and personalised sessions that maximise progress.

Each lesson combines clear, concise explanations of key historical content with interactive discussion, encouraging students to actively engage with the material and develop their own interpretations. I often incorporate source analysis, practice questions, and guided discussions to help students apply their knowledge and think critically. A strong emphasis is placed on essay writing, including how to structure arguments, use evidence effectively, and develop clear, analytical responses. I also focus on exam techniques such as time management, question analysis, and understanding mark schemes to ensure students can perform to the best of their ability.

Through my experience as Treasurer of my university’s History Society, I have organised academic events and led study sessions for both current and visiting students. This has given me valuable experience in explaining complex ideas in an accessible and engaging way, as well as adapting my teaching to suit different levels of understanding.

I aim to create a supportive and encouraging learning environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and developing their confidence. Ultimately, my lessons are designed not only to improve grades, but also to foster a genuine interest and appreciation for history.
