I know from my own recent experience that the jump from GCSE to A-Level is huge, and the move to university level is even bigger. My goal isn’t to just talk at you for an hour, it’s to help you find your own academic voice and build the confidence to tackle any exam paper or interview prompt.
How our sessions will work:
Active Problem Solving: We’ll spend less time on reading the textbook and more time on 'doing'. Whether it's mapping out a complex Geography case study or debating a Historical controversy, I keep things fast-paced and conversational.
Real-Time Essay Building: We’ll use shared documents to write and edit together in real-time. This is the best way to learn how to structure an A* essay - watching a thesis statement come to life rather than just talking about it.
The Cambridge Supervision Method: For A-Level students, I love to bring in the style of teaching we use here at Cambridge. I’ll challenge your ideas and encourage you to defend your arguments, a skill that is essential for top grades and absolutely vital for Oxbridge interviews.
A Typical 60-Minute Session:
0-10 mins: The Brain Dump - we review what you learned at school this week and fix any confusing topics.
10-35 mins: Deep Dive - we tackle a specific topic (e.g. the Industrial Revolution or Sociological theories of crime) using digital whiteboards and visual aids.
35-55 mins: The Exam Hack - we look at a past paper question and plan a response together, focusing on how to wow the examiner with your analysis.
55-60 mins: Wrap up and a clear to-do list for next time.
Specialist Oxbridge Mentoring:
As I am currently studying at Jesus College, Cambridge, I can provide a behind the scenes look at the application process. We can spend our time:
HAA Prep: Practicing the History Admissions Assessment together.
Unseen Texts: Learning how to analyse a piece of evidence you've never seen before (a classic interview task).
Mock Interviews: I’ll give you a realistic taste of a Cambridge interview in a supportive, low-stress environment.
