Colin Hawk

Welcome to my History lessons!

My aim is to make History engaging, accessible and exam-focused, while giving you the knowledge, skills and confidence to achieve your best possible results.

My lessons are structured, interactive and fully resourced. I use PowerPoint presentations alongside audio, images, video, maps and other visual resources to bring historical events and individuals to life. This combination helps you understand and remember complex topics rather than simply memorising facts.

Every lesson is carefully planned around the Edexcel exam-board specification, ensuring that you cover all the content you need for your examination. I provide thorough explanations of key events, individuals and developments, while also focusing on the skills that matter in an exam: analysing causes and consequences, explaining significance, evaluating interpretations and sources, and constructing strong, well-supported arguments.

Lessons are adapted to suit your needs, ability and areas for development. We will regularly check your understanding, revisit important knowledge and practise exam-style questions so that you can see exactly how to turn what you know into marks.

I have 18 years’ experience as a Head of History, giving me experience of teaching, curriculum design and supporting students to make progress. For the past 15 years, I have also worked as an Edexcel examiner, giving me insight into what examiners look for and the mistakes that can prevent students from reaching the highest grades.

Whether you need to build your confidence, improve your exam technique or push towards the top grades, my lessons are designed to help you succeed.
