I am a PhD biologist and former university lecturer with more than 12 years of experience teaching at universities in the UK and internationally.
My strongest teaching areas are Mathematics, Statistics, Biology and Ecology. I have taught students at undergraduate and postgraduate level and have supervised honours, MRes and PhD students.
My approach is to make complex subjects understandable. Rather than simply giving students answers to memorise, I work through the underlying concepts, identify gaps in understanding and then build knowledge systematically through examples and problem-solving.
In Mathematics and Statistics, I can help with probability, statistics, mathematical modelling, quantitative methods, biostatistics and data analysis. I also have extensive experience using R and applying statistical methods to real scientific data.
In Biology and Ecology, I can support students with biology, zoology, ecology, conservation, biodiversity and environmental science, including the quantitative aspects of these subjects.
I currently provide one-to-one A-Level tutoring to a student on the autistic spectrum. This has reinforced the importance of adapting explanations, pace and lesson structure to the individual learner.
I am calm, patient and structured, and I aim to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and working through difficult material. I particularly enjoy helping students who are capable but lack confidence or find conventional explanations difficult to follow.
I offer online tutoring and, where practical, face-to-face lessons in the Glossop, Manchester, and the High Peak area.
