Lessons will begin by identifying a student's knowledge gaps by having them pinpoint their main struggles so that a step-by-step plan can be created for each individual on how to improve. After these initial stages are completed, whichever area is the problem area, it will be focussed upon first by explaining the content back to them and then using recall methods such as mind maps, flashcards and general word-dumping methods in order for dates, events, and names to be stored in their long-term memory. These exercises are excellent tools when it comes to studying History, as it is all about consuming as much content as possible.
Past paper examples will also be gone through with past paper exam questions so that students can see where they should be aiming for and what style of questions receive the best grades. Past papers are an incredibly important part of studying for History as they show students exactly what the examiners are looking for and can even tell students what topics are most likely to present themselves in upcoming exams.
As a History student myself and recieving top grades in both GCSE and A-Level, these methods are the ones that work best in ensuring a students success with the subject and the more practice, content and correct techniques that can be learnt, the higher the chance of success.
