A dedicated first-year BA History student at UCL, bilingual in French and English. Learning two languages simultaneously has given me a strong understanding of how languages are learned and memorised, which directly informs my teaching approach. I have experience working with children aged 4–9 as a French teaching assistant, as well as providing one-to-one mentoring in History and French for GCSE students at my secondary school, working with them through questions or simply explaining concepts to help boost their understanding and enable them to better understand future lessons. I also have experience making and fact checking teaching videos for an educational app, where I hold educators to the a high standard, validating their explanations and teaching against the GCSE specification to ensure it is of the highest quality and accuracy. Making videos for this has also allowed me to get a firsthand experience from ratings into what a large number of students find is the best way to learn and have informed my 1-1 teaching methods from this.
I am passionate about making learning engaging and accessible, and I firmly believe that enjoyment is essential for meaningful progress. My lessons are structured around interactive recaps of previous lessons using quizzes and active recall, followed by guided work and explanations on the student’s chosen topic. I also offer optional homework and provide clear summary sheets after each session to reinforce what has been covered, as well as a report for parents to see how their child is doing. I aim to improve the students understanding and also confidence as I found during my time at school that a lack of confidence often stood in the way and I'd love to inspire a student with passion, knowledge and also confidence- skills that are equally essential for whatever they choose to do next!
