Aiming to gather experience for a potential career in education by building skills.
Current A-Level student studying History, Politics & Economics who is predicted A* in all three subjects. Achieved A* in EPQ and grades 9 in Maths, Statistics, History, Chemistry, Physics & English Language GCSEs, as well as grade 8 in Biology and 7 in English Literature.
At GCSE level took the Edexcel exam board, with the units of Richard I & King John, Spain and the New World, Crime and Punishment through time, and Stalin's Russia. However, I would be able to learn a new unit and apply the knowledge to the same type of questions within a few weeks.
Has previously worked in a volunteer role for my school's History & Politics Department which involved organising information used in lessons and designed a worksheet for the lower school which was well received by my school's teachers. I have also had a position of responsibility at my school that involved working with children and holding activities with them.
At primary level: building basic history skills such as critical thinking, understanding of cause and effect, thinking about the value of sources, building links across concepts or time periods, deepening historical knowledge, seeing things from multiple perspectives, and building a love for history.
At secondary level: building exam technique, developing short and long form writing skills, deepening historical thinking including source analysis and critical thinking, encouraging alternative perspectives, and ensuring that a student's love for history survives GCSEs.
Remote tutor who would be confident using Microsoft Teams (& potentially Zoom) for video calling. Lessons would last around 30 minutes to 1 hour depending on age of the student, and would involve the use of visual cues such as presentations that would contain key information and be shared with the student and/or their parents after the lesson. Would also go through worksheets for younger students and exam papers for older/GCSE level students. At a secondary level I may also set short homeworks in the form of worksheets which should take no longer than 30 minutes and aim to develop key skills in the study of history.
I would like to accommodate students who are neurodivergent or who have mild learning disabilities. This may be in the form of heightened visual aids, longer or shorter sessions, going through content and skills at a slower pace. If there is a specific accommodation that you need for your child, I would like to be messaged beforehand at which I would be able to confirm if I am able to make the accommodation required.
Not currently accepting tutoring offers from parents as a private tutor until after 20 June due to upcoming A-Levels, but would be willing to accept training for companies. After 20 June I would be willing to hold trial sessions for £20/hour, which would allow for me to learn how your child learns and for you to learn how I would tutor.
