Callum Best

An experienced academic with 3 degrees (one BA, two MA) in history, I have a deep and nuanced understanding of what it’s like to both study and teach history, particularly in the UK, but also abroad. I thus have lots of experience from a variety of different teaching methods, meaning I can adapt to your needs in whichever way suits you best! I also understand that, particularly in the UK, history can often be a daunting, inaccessible, and overwhelming subject to many. In my classes, I have a proven track record in not only developing skills in the subject, but also in fostering a more positive attitude and approach to the subject in general!

I also have great interpersonal skills and I am dedicated to creating a fun and engaging space for everyone involved. History can sometimes be a dark and serious subject, but can also be an exciting and adventurous one, and I can confidently say that under my tutelage there won’t be a dull moment!

While my specialisation is in European history, particularly of the 20th century, I have direct engagement with various UK curriculums, and am able to help students with both content and structure. I often find that pupils struggle not with content, but with structure— so if this is your weaker area then I am the right person for you! Still, if subject knowledge and retention is a weak point, I have many different (and fun) ways to help with managing and retaining all the facts, dates and figures that studying history often requires!
