Mathematics:
My Maths lessons are tailored to each student’s level, learning needs and goals, from primary through to GCSE. I begin by finding out what they feel confident with and where they need support, then plan lessons around those areas.
A typical lesson includes a short recap, a clear explanation of a concept, worked examples and guided practice. Students then try questions independently, with feedback and support where needed. I use visual resources and everyday examples to make ideas easier to understand, while encouraging students to explain their thinking rather than simply memorise a method.
My background includes experience as an assistant primary teacher and a one-to-one outreach tutor, supporting students with different learning needs, including autism, ADHD and dyslexia. I adapt the pace and break tasks into manageable steps, allowing time to revisit concepts.
Lessons can focus on strengthening foundations, supporting schoolwork, developing problem-solving skills or preparing for exams. My approach is patient and encouraging, creating a space where students can ask questions, make mistakes and build confidence.
Painting
My painting lessons combine practical demonstrations, guided experimentation and time to develop your own artwork. We begin by discussing your interests, experience and what you would like to explore, whether that is learning a particular medium, building technical skills or developing your own ideas.
I hold an MA in Painting from Arts University Bournemouth and am a practising artist with experience teaching art to children and working as a one-to-one outreach tutor. I work across watercolour, acrylic, oil paint, soft pastels and oil pastels. My mixed media practice also incorporates texture paste, sand, salt, gold leaf and laser cut wood.
Depending on your goals, lessons can cover colour mixing, composition, mark making, layering and building texture. I demonstrate techniques, explain material choices and support you as you experiment, with feedback throughout.
I also teach intuitive approaches to making original work. You can explore painting from imagination, emotions and spontaneous responses to materials, or use photographs as a starting point and transform their colours, shapes and composition into something distinctly your own.
My approach is patient and flexible, balancing practical guidance with room for discovery. You will be encouraged to make your own creative decisions and build confidence in your individual way of working.
