MA Painting graduate/ Practising Artist/ offering creative lessons in watercolour acrylic oil pastels and mixed media

Whether you are picking up a paintbrush for the first time or looking to develop your existing skills, I offer painting and mixed media lessons tailored to your interests, experience and goals.

I hold an MA in Painting from Arts University Bournemouth and have experience teaching art to children alongside working as an outreach tutor. I work with watercolour, acrylic, oil paint, soft pastels and oil pastels, as well as texture paste and unconventional materials such as sand, salt, gold leaf and laser cut wood.

Lessons can cover colour mixing, composition, mark making, layering and building textured surfaces. You can explore traditional painting techniques, experiment with combining materials, or develop a project from your own ideas.

My lessons also explore intuitive painting, helping you create original work from your imagination, emotions and responses to colour, texture and materials. You can work without reference photographs or learn to transform a reference by reworking its shapes, colours and composition until the painting takes on an identity of its own. The focus is on developing your own visual language and feeling confident making creative decisions.

My approach is patient, encouraging and practical, with step by step demonstrations, time to experiment and individual feedback. I aim to help you build technical skills and confidence while discovering your own way of working.
