Advert description
Skills & Experience
I am a native British English speaker, retired Senior Airline Captain, and active academic researcher with over three decades of high-stakes communication experience. I spent 28 years with Monarch Airlines as both a line pilot and a management pilot, which included 10 years leading complex corporate negotiations as BALPA Company Council Chairman and serving as a Trustee for the company's Defined Benefits Pension scheme. Aviation and corporate governance demand absolute clarity, precision, and calm under pressure—skills that translate perfectly into effective teaching.
My passion for the language is matched by a strong analytical background. I hold a First-Class Honours BSc in Natural Sciences from the Open University, a BSc in Physics with Mathematics from the University of Reading, and have completed postgraduate MSc modules in Corporate Finance (OU) and Astrophysics (LJMU). Combined with GCE 'O' levels in both Russian and French, I possess a deep, structural understanding of linguistics, grammar, and specialized technical vocabulary. I am uniquely equipped to tutor advanced learners in Business English, corporate presentation coaching, interview preparation, and technical/academic STEM vocabulary.
How I Will Teach
My lessons are student-centred, highly structured, and tailored completely to individual professional or academic goals. I do not rely on rigid textbook repetition; instead, I use real-world materials such as current financial articles, corporate case studies, or scientific papers to spark natural, engaging discussion. A typical 1-hour lesson follows a clear flight-plan model: a brief introduction to set goals, targeted vocabulary and interactive role-play exercises in the middle, and a constructive feedback debrief at the end. I focus heavily on grading my language appropriately, building a relaxed environment, and instilling genuine conversational confidence.
