I am a qualified journalist and I have a teaching qualification, graduating from Canterbury Christ Church University. I specialise in teaching English Language.
I have worked in the post-16 sector, which includes teaching adults, and I currently teach English Language at Bromley College. I have also worked in schools.
I have worked as a journalist for a range of national newspapers such as The Times, The Sunday Times, The Daily Mail, The Observer, The Independent and The Financial Times. I have also worked for specialist magazines, such as Business Matters, the in-house magazine of Imperial College, which I edited. This experience means that I have high professional standards, excellent attention to detail, experience of teaching creative writing creating and presenting learning material for students.
I consider myself to be an English Language and English Literature specialist. My teaching methods use a student-centered approach that relies largely on inquiry-based learning based on open-ended questions. I have found this to be very effective as it encourages critical thinking and the exploration of a particular topic. I also use the demonstration method and teacher-led approach where concepts and ideas are explained to the student. I also use, where appropriate, clear instructions using subject-related PowerPoint slides to explains a topic while learners actively listen and take notes. I also differentiate my lessons by tailoring the the lessoncontent, process, or product of a lesson to fit individual students' readiness, interests, or learning profiles. All students are different, especially adults, which is why differentiation is effective.
