Advert description
I am currently studying for a PGCE in History with QTS at University College London (UCL) and completing my placement as a Trainee History Teacher at St Bonaventure's School in East London. I also have a 2:1 degree in History and Politics from The Open University.
Through my school placement, I am gaining experience working with Year 7 students studying Medieval Christendom, while developing my skills in lesson planning, classroom management and adapting lessons to different learning abilities.
My approach to tutoring is to first understand what a student already knows, what they struggle with and what they want to improve. From there, I would plan lessons around their individual needs, whether that involves understanding a particular historical period, improving essay writing or preparing for exams.
I believe History should be more than just memorising dates and events. I want students to understand why things happened, how different events connect and how to form their own opinions using historical evidence.
For GCSE and A-Level students, I would focus on developing essay structure, source analysis and exam techniques alongside subject knowledge. For younger students, I would aim to make History engaging and easier to understand through discussion, questions and activities.
Having experienced how different students learn during my placement, I understand the importance of being patient and explaining things in different ways. My aim is to create a relaxed environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes and gradually building their confidence in History.
