PhD Biochemist and Highly Experienced Chemistry and Science Tutor

Honours degree in Biochemistry (Imperial College). PhD in Molecular Biochemistry (Univ. of Bristol). Qualified teacher (Institute of Education), as well as teacher trainer (Institute of Education). 12-year successful career in laboratories with well regarded publications, prior to 25 years of teaching Chemistry, Physics, and Biology (ages 11–16). My passion and strongest expertise lie in Chemistry. I have worked extensively with the Royal Society of Chemistry (RSC) to write and deliver teacher training (INSET), and co-wrote the RSC Teaching Standards for Chemistry teachers.

I bring a wealth of teaching expertise from diverse educational settings - including classrooms, one-to-one mentoring, and supporting students with a wide range of needs. These experiences have deepened my practice of effective Chemistry teaching to the very highest levels. My students tell me that I make a big difference to their understanding of Chemistry. I have also successfully tutored a Maths student at Key Stage 2.

I have a proven track record in fostering inclusion in science education. I have supported students across the full range of starting points, including those with Education Health Care Plans (EHCPs), as well as those who are very bright and ahead of most others. I am committed to providing a highly personalised learning experience to help every individual student achieve their very best potential. Furthermore, I have strong skills in promoting positive learning behaviours and healthy attitudes towards learning.
