Biology Tutor (qualified to PhD level) who can tutor at all levels (GCSE, Undergrad, Postgrad)

Hello! I'm Lucas (he/him) and I'm a Postdoctoral Researcher and Scientist previously employed at the University of Melbourne, Australia, but have now relocated to the UK. I have a research specialism in Genetics, Microbiology, Cell Biology, Omics Technologies, Evolution, Ecology and Zoology, in conjunction with a passion for teaching and communicating key aspects of biological science to diverse audiences.

I have over four years of experience teaching and tutoring students at all levels, and I continue to co-supervise two MSc and two PhD students through their studies on varied topics in Biology. I would be happy to help students at any level, however I have a particularly deep understanding of the university/higher-academic environment and can help prospective students with their personal statements, and interviews for course entry. I have also published over 24 academic papers in high-impact journals (e.g. The Lancet Microbe) and can therefore assist students in drafting, writing and editing scientific manuscripts.

I engage with students' unique learning styles to find out how best they like to learn and progress, i.e. whether they are a visual, kinetic, aural, reading/writing learner or a combination of many. After assessing learning style, I tailor my lessons for each student individually, working through the subject content they want to cover with case studies, practice questions and contemporary examples of the topic, e.g. via news articles or media. My lessons are typically 1 hour in length but can be longer if required. I am qualified to a doctorate level in Biology and have also completed a masters and undergraduate course (with honours). I can adapt my lessons for all ages and levels, including preparation for GCSE-level qualifications, undergraduate studies as well as higher-level MSc and PhD courses.
