Experienced teacher who likes to teach conceptually using real-world examples

Advert description
I like to teach the basic facts of the concept and scaffold it up with worked examples, basic examples, then chemsheets resources before moving on to past paper questions.
Andrew in a nutshell
I use mainly powerpoint presentations built up over the years alongside my own revision notes.
Chemsheets are used extensively as well as examination question analysis in topic areas.

I tend to explain the lessons in a real-world context.
Students gain practise at exam-style questions at every opportunity.
We look at the responses of the student and see where they could obtain better marks for the future.
Inaccuracies are ironed out and progress is made by spiral-reinforcement of concept areas.
The use of mind maps, online videos, flashcards and online quizzes helps the learning process.

Common misconceptions are explained.

Extensive practise is made of my two main specialist areas of Chemistry teaching.

The use of Mathematics is integral to successful marks in the Physical Chemistry side of the curriculum.

Organic Chemistry is taught by the successful Synthon approach. The student assigns polarity of bonds in the organic chemistry reactions. They then look at the functional group attached and see what charge is on that group. They then logically deduce whether the group will usually be attacked by an electrophile or nucleophile. Is substitution or addition taking place?

As a former analytical Chemist with previous industrial experience - the use of spectroscopy is explained in detail.

My own examination revision notes, sustained examination result excellence and 32 years of international Chemistry teaching experience allowed me to obtain the prestigious award of Chartered Science teacher. I am also a valued Member of the Royal Society of Chemistry.

I am available for online tuition only or in-person in the Newcastle Upon Tyne area.
