Advert description
Hi, my name is Orlando and I am 20 years old. Currently, I am enrolled at Durham University studying Music for my Undergraduate degree. I have an extensive background in music, having sung at a professional standard since the age of 8. During my time as a chorister at Winchester Cathedral choir, I performed at world-class venues across the UK and abroad, including St Peter's Basilica in Vatican City and the Duomo in Florence, as well as numerous other cathedrals. Since then I have been involved in countless solo performances, orchestras, choirs, a cappella groups and as a lead singer of a Big Band singing jazz. I have also just finished a summer at Dorset Opera.
I am keen to take on new students of any age or ability. I would be most suited to students pursuing Classical song, Choral music, Solo repertoire or Jazz singing, although I am happy to adapt lessons to suit each students individual interests and goals.
Whilst I have not had any formal teaching experience, I have given a few lessons to friends in the past to help them with either the particular phrasing of a piece or singing technique, and shown them steps to improve from there. This gave me a first taste as to how rewarding it can be to help someone improve. I have had excellent singing teachers and have been involved in choirs with great conductors who have developed my singing considerably, and I should like to pass on some of the experience I have gathered to other singers.
Availability:
During term times I am based in Durham and during holidays in Dorset or London. I would be happy to give lessons either online or in-person (or both!). The best days for me are Wednesday, Saturday and Sunday, although I do have flexibility for other days depending on the time, with afternoons usually being preferable. Lessons would be held at my house in Durham, where I have access to a piano, or, depending on the distance, at the student's preferred location.
Qualifications:
Grade 8 distinction in singing, Grade 8 merit in piano, Grade 6 violin. I acquired good grades in my GCSE's and completed my A levels 2 years ago in Maths, Philosophy and Music.
More about myself:
Although much of my life has revolved around music, my other interests include tennis, philosophy and history.
