When mentoring or tutoring students, I typically ask what topics need to be looked over urgently and use the correct textbook to teach them. I ask questions consistently throughout the session to ensure the student is following along and understands all concepts, and I leave the floor open for the student to ask as many questions as necessary. After explaining the lesson / topic concepts, I give the students practice questions to check their understanding, and then we go through the answers together and I explain each answer thoroughly. If there is extra time, I may add a short quiz at the very end just to check their understanding for the final time before we end the lesson. At the beginning of the next session, I will then ask a few questions from the previous lesson to check if the student has retained the information. If I give homework (which is rare) I will check their work and again go through the answers with them. I overall make sure that the student understands every concept before the tutoring session ends.
