I will always make sure the student is comfortable around me first before talking about maths straight away. I like to build a relationship with the child and not think of tutoring in a negative light. I want their lessons to be fun so they can understand it better and associate it with positivity and good understanding. I will do everything I can to help the student understand and potentially enjoy maths at the end of the session in comparison to the start. If a student doesn't understand something I explain, I will find different ways of teaching to suit the needs of the student as they are the priority. It is also important for me to have a good professional relationship with the parents/carers and I am more than happy to have them observe the sessions to make sure their child is getting the education they need and that it is worth the tuition fee I charge. Maths work can include helping them understand and complete homework as well as helping them with topics in maths that they do not understand or struggle with. I can also try to help them with other subjects wherever I can as my main focus is helping the student to succeed. If there is anything I am unsure about, I will aways voice this, and I will be happy to go through this with the student together. I would prefer knowing the topic we will be discussing in advance so I can potentially create worksheets if needed - otherwise I am more than happy to just help with homework.
