With 3-4 years of experience through being a tutoring assistant as well as being a self-made online tutor, the structure of my lessons are crafted towards a way which will benefit my student in a specific level.
For example, a Year 6 student with upcoming SATs would be having 1-2 hour lessons once or twice weekly.
If their English Comprehension skills were good but Spellings was an issue, more time would be dedicated towards Spellings.
Homework is set per lesson and is always due the next lesson. Homework is not set to tire out the student but to allow their intellectual knowledge to be advanced through practice.
For all my students, each lesson follows the plan given below:
1 hour lesson:
10 minutes goes towards checking homework(this is given after every lesson and is due in the following lesson) + given homework for the next lesson
40 minutes goes towards the lesson, topics change weekly so that content is finished on time
10 minutes goes towards the extra help the student needs
2 hour lesson:
10 minutes goes towards checking homework(this is given after every lesson and is due in the following lesson) + given homework for the next lesson
30 minutes goes towards the first topic, gone through in depth
30 minutes goes towards the second topic, gone through in depth
30 minutes goes towards the third topic, gone through in depth
20 minutes goes towards exam practice - this means that now the student will do practice questions in order to test their knowledge
As a current A-Level student, doing English Literature, Sociology and Religious Studies, I have applied to do an undergraduate degree in English with Creative Writing and am planning on doing a Masters in English afterwards.
