My lessons are highly interactive and are designed to keep students actively engaged throughout. Rather than relying on lengthy explanations, I use a mixture of questioning, discussion, worked examples and guided practice to help students develop understanding for themselves. This allows me to identify misconceptions quickly and adapt the lesson to the student's needs.

A typical lesson will include a combination of new learning, practice and review of previous material. I regularly revisit key concepts and skills to ensure that knowledge is retained and can be applied confidently in different contexts. Students are encouraged to explain their thinking, justify their answers and reflect on how they can improve.

For English, lessons may focus on reading comprehension, literary analysis, creative writing, essay structure, vocabulary development or examination technique. For admissions preparation, I place particular emphasis on developing the underlying skills that schools are looking for, including critical thinking, problem-solving, inference and clear written communication.

I aim to create a supportive atmosphere in which students feel comfortable asking questions and making mistakes. At the same time, I maintain high expectations and encourage students to take increasing responsibility for their own learning. As confidence and competence grow, I gradually reduce the amount of support provided so that students become more independent.

Many students and parents comment on the balance between challenge and encouragement in my lessons. My goal is not simply to help students complete the next piece of work or pass the next examination, but to equip them with skills and habits that will continue to benefit them throughout their education.
