I am an experienced English and school admissions tutor with more than 6,500 hours of one-to-one tuition. I specialise in 11+ and 13+ English, school entrance exams, GCSE English Language and Literature, interview prep and academic writing.

I have extensive experience preparing students for a wide range of assessments, including Common Entrance and school-specific entrance exams. Students I have worked with have gained places at highly competitive schools including Winchester College, St Paul's, Hampton, Abingdon and St Mary's Ascot.

My approach focuses on developing the underlying skills that drive academic success. Rather than relying on rote learning or examination tricks, I help students strengthen their reading comprehension, vocabulary, analytical thinking, essay writing and communication skills. These are the foundations that allow students not only to succeed in examinations, but also to thrive in demanding academic environments.

Every lesson is tailored to the individual student. Some students need support in building confidence and mastering core skills, while others require challenge and extension to reach the highest levels of attainment. I identify strengths and weaknesses, establish clear goals and create a structured programme designed around each student's needs.

Lessons combine clear explanation, modelling, guided practice, discussion and regular review. I place particular emphasis on helping students understand how to approach unfamiliar questions, construct convincing arguments and express themselves with precision and confidence.

Alongside private tutoring, I have taught undergraduate seminars and worked as a British Council Senior Examiner, including assessment work connected with entrance examinations in China. This experience has given me valuable insight into assessment standards, marking criteria and the qualities that distinguish stronger responses from weaker ones.

I hold a Cambridge CELTA qualification and an MA in Cultural History. My wider academic interests include history, politics, philosophy and culture, all of which contribute to a broad and intellectually engaging approach to teaching.
