I always say that the keys to a successful learning experience are as follows:
1) Student comfort- I'd love for my students to feel safe in my classes, no question is silly, and my students should never be afraid to question what I'm teaching them. I always try to be and accommodating as possible to ensure my students recognise my classroom as a safe space to share, explore and expand their ideas. As a student of philosophy, communication and transfer of ideas are essential skills that I hope to pass on to my students.
2) Student Confidence - I want my students to not just memorize rules or regurgitate facts. I want them to deeply and intuitively integrate the lessons they learn into their daily lives. This is especially import when speaking is concerned. I want my students to find their voice, and this ties in with point (1) aswell. I firmly believe that when a student believes in themselves, and their ideas, magic can happen!
3) Student Connection - I firmly believe that learning doesn't need to be boring. Everyone has interests, hobbies, likes and dislikes, and all of these are perfect learning tools. When a student can see the relevance to themselves specifically, lessons go from a chore, to an adventure exploring their own thoughts and theories. By making my lessons as relevant to my students as I can, I try to keep them self-motivated.
With these 3 guiding principles, I hope we can have some amazing lessons, growing, learning and exploring the wonder world of writing, speaking and reading with eachother.
