My lessons are friendly, engaging and tailored to each child. I want children to feel comfortable enough to ask questions, make mistakes and challenge themselves without feeling under pressure.

At the beginning of tuition, I take time to understand the child’s current ability, strengths and areas for development. I then use this to plan sessions that are purposeful but enjoyable, with activities matched to their individual needs.

A typical lesson may include:
• A short warm-up or retrieval activity to recap previous learning
• Direct teaching of a new skill or concept
• Guided practice together, with lots of opportunities for discussion and questioning
• Independent activities to check understanding and build confidence
• A short review at the end so the child knows what they have achieved and what we will work on next

I use a mixture of questioning, games, discussion, practical activities, reading, written work and exam-style questions depending on the child’s age and goals. For younger children, I keep activities varied and interactive; for 11+ and SATs preparation, I gradually introduce more challenging questions and focus on accuracy, reasoning, time management and exam technique.

As a qualified primary teacher and English Lead, I have extensive experience teaching children across the primary age range. I have taught English and maths in the classroom and have particular experience with reading, writing, phonics, handwriting and comprehension. I also have experience supporting children with SEN and adapting lessons to suit different learning needs.

For me, tutoring isn’t simply about completing a worksheet. It’s about understanding how a child learns, identifying what is holding them back and finding the right approach to help them move forward.

Most importantly, I want children to leave each lesson thinking, “I can do this.”
