My teaching style is engaging, supportive and highly focused on helping students achieve success in examinations whilst also developing genuine confidence and independence in their learning. With over 30 years of experience teaching A Level Sociology in high-achieving schools, including as Head of Social Sciences at a leading North London academy, I understand both the academic demands of the subject and the challenges students face when trying to translate knowledge into top-grade exam performance.
Lessons are carefully adapted to the needs of each individual student. Some students require help building confidence and organisation, whilst others are aiming for the highest A and A* grades and need detailed refinement of exam technique and analytical writing. I place a strong emphasis on helping students understand exactly what examiners are looking for and how to structure answers effectively under timed conditions.
My sessions are interactive and discussion-based rather than simply lecture-style teaching. I encourage students to think critically, ask questions and take ownership of their progress. Students and parents often comment on my approachable and personable manner, as well as my ability to motivate students who may previously have struggled with confidence or consistency.
I use a wide range of professional resources and presentations developed over many years of teaching and tutoring. These include detailed PowerPoints, model essays, essay plans, revision guides, knowledge organisers, exam technique materials and tailored feedback sheets. My presentations are clear, visually engaging and exam-focused, helping students break down complex sociological ideas into manageable and memorable content that can be applied effectively in examinations.
