My name is Olivia and I’m a second-year History student at the University of Edinburgh. I studied History, English Literature and Politics at A Level — three subjects that taught me to think critically, write clearly, and explore the world from different perspectives.
I love studying History because it’s about far more than just memorising dates — it helps us understand not only what happened in the past, but why it happened, and how those events continue to shape the present. To me, history encourages thoughtful analysis, empathy, and engagement with the world around us.
My continued passion for English and Politics, both rich in ideas and debate, complements my study of History and inspires me to tutor these subjects too. Together, they help students develop strong reasoning, communication, and analytical skills — all of which are valuable beyond the classroom.
As a tutor, I bring patience, positivity and a supportive approach. I know everyone learns differently, so I tailor each session to the student’s needs — making complex ideas clear and manageable. I also have experience working with SEND students in schools, and always aim to create a calm, inclusive space where every learner can grow in confidence and enjoy learning.
Having struggled with the pressures of exam anxiety myself, I understand how stressful they can be — and I believe that tutoring should support not just academic progress, but also self-esteem, motivation, and a more positive experience of learning.
