I'm a first-year LLB student at the University of Sheffield, currently performing at first-class level, with A*AAB at A-level and 6 9's at GCSE. I tutor primary school maths and English, and prepare Year 4-5 students for the 11+.
Every student I work with gets a personalised plan from the start. The first lesson is largely diagnostic. I work out what the student already knows, where they're struggling, and what specifically they're being assessed on (school curriculum, exam board, or 11+ format). From there I build a plan that targets the gaps rather than wasting time on what they've already mastered.
For maths, I focus on building strong number sense, mental arithmetic, and confidence with word problems. Sessions are structured around clear goals, with timed practice and detailed feedback after each task.
For English, I work on reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and writing structure. I use a mix of exam-style passages, creative writing exercises, with a planning focus to build confidence for exams and lessons.
For 11+ preparation, I cover verbal reasoning, non-verbal reasoning, maths, and English in line with the relevant paper (GL Assessment, CEM, ISEB Common Pre-Test, or school-specific exams). We work through past papers gradually with detailed feedback after each one, building exam technique alongside content knowledge.
After every lesson, parents receive a short progress update covering what we covered, what the student did well, and what to focus on next. Every month I send a longer report tracking how the student is developing over time.
