I am experienced in teaching people, including children. I volunteer at Gladstone's Land, a National Trust for Scotland property in Edinburgh. I tell visitors all about the history of the building. I engage with guests by connecting to them personally, for example, showing older guests coins that they remember from their childhoods. I engage with children using historical toys. I have also volunteered for projects working with children through National Museums Scotland, where I helped children to create science-themed art projects. Through these experiences, I have learned patience and improved my communication skills. I have also earned to tailor my communication styles to different people to help them learn. I communicate clearly and patiently, and I make sure that lessons are both informative and fun. Beyond simple memorization, I do my best to make sure that students fully understand each topic. I repeat information in different ways until I am sure that full understanding has been achieved. I try to connect different lessons and topics to each other, so that students can build on past knowledge and gain confidence. I try to use real world examples, so that students understand why the topic matters and how it relates to their own life. I encourage students to practice a task repeatedly until they are confident that they can do it on their own. Most of all, I try to make lessons enjoyable and fun, so that students will develop a love of learning, be motivated to continue learning on their own.
