I have taught English as a second language for over fifteen years to a broad range of students covering different cultures, abilities, ages and motivations. This includes English for conversation, for exam preparation including IELTS, business English, culture and literature.
I enjoy meeting the students and putting them at their ease - I don't rely on a text book although I will happily refer students to textbooks and websites for practice. I find the most effective method is to get to know the student's motivation and interests and to work from there preparing exercises and guided conversations that - with practice - will guarantee the student makes progress.
I'm a visual artist and so I use a lot of drawing as a 'language-free' means of helping students understand tricky grammar points or nuances of meaning. My lessons are engaging and entertaining and students find that the time flies by while they are learning and that the homework I set interests them and has them looking forward to the next lesson.
I'm very experienced in carefully listening to students and to analysing their writing particularly to help them identify when they are making mistakes and how to rectify them. I also use videos to help improve listening skills and create reading lessons that assist students to improve both their reading for gist and for detail. Helping you to become a proficient and respected English speaker is what I take a great deal of pride in and I have a great many former students who are very grateful for the support and guidance I gave them.
