My lessons are highly student-led and carefully tailored to each individual learner. I recognise that every student has their own learning style, pace, and academic goals, so I consistently adapt my teaching approach to meet their needs. I aim to create a calm, supportive, and encouraging environment where students feel comfortable asking questions, making mistakes, and building genuine confidence in their abilities. I am particularly experienced in working with SEN students and understand the importance of flexibility, patience, and finding approaches that are best suited to each learner as an individual.
For students who may be developing confidence or require support in specific areas of English Literature or Language, I focus on strengthening core understanding by breaking learning into clear, manageable steps. Where needed, I revisit foundational skills to ensure secure understanding before progressing further. I believe that strong foundations are essential for long-term success, and I take care to simplify complex ideas in a way that feels accessible and achievable, helping students to feel more secure and less overwhelmed in their learning.
For academically confident or high-achieving students, my lessons are designed to extend thinking, deepen analysis, and encourage greater independence. I challenge students to refine their critical interpretations, develop more precise and sophisticated written expression, and engage more fully with the nuances of texts and exam expectations. This may include pushing analytical arguments further, improving structural control in essays, or helping students develop a more assured academic voice that meets the highest assessment criteria.
Lessons may include a focus on essay writing, reading comprehension, exam preparation, revision strategies, creative writing, or overall confidence-building in English. I always aim to make sessions structured yet engaging, ensuring students are actively involved in their learning and can clearly see their progress over time.
I am highly qualified in English Studies, holding a First-Class Bachelor’s degree and a Master’s degree achieved with Distinction. Alongside my academic background, I have gained extensive practical experience in education, including supporting primary school pupils with reading comprehension, teaching English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL), and volunteering for two years as a classroom assistant in a SEN school. These experiences have shaped a patient, adaptable, and empathetic teaching approach, enabling me to effectively support both academic progress and personal development across a wide range of learners.
