As a newly qualified teacher, I tutor in person and online using a range of resources from slides, workbooks, fiction, original texts and extracts to online videos, tutorials and quizes to ensure my lessons are not only knowledge rich but engaging for pupils in a fun, memorable way, uniquely adapted to suit their individual needs and understanding based on the latest pedagogies.

I have a lot of academic experience from my own career at school, college and then several universities, where I gave presentations and took part in seminar discussions so am used to sharing new, relevant information with students in ways I hope will interest and hold their attention.

For the practical side of my PGCE I taught at two trust academies in Yorkshire both alone and team taught. During this time I learnt the importance of structuring lessons effectively, ensuring content is eye catching and divided into manageable chunks, explaining tasks at a pace pupils are comfortable with using expert subject knowledge, reading alone or together and carrying out independent or partially independent writing activities to be discussed and uplevelled later.

Most importantly, as a result of my four years tutoring, teaching and TA experience so far I have learnt how it is important to listen and allow pupils to guide the lessons and their content honestly, because I think tutoring should be about saving time and making English seem simpler and more manageable for them.

I am currently employed as a supply teacher where I work at a variety of schools with children with varying needs from A-Level students to Y7 pupils. I also tutor KS4 pupils in preparation for their GCSE examinations and occasionally voluntarily tutor KS2-KS4 pupils who are struggling to meet their predicted grade boundaries online and in person for a charitable organisation.
