Max Stoner

I’m an engaging and passionate History tutor based in South London, offering both face-to-face and online lessons for GCSE and A-Level students.

I specialise in modern history from the French Revolution onwards, with particular expertise in British, American, Russian and German history. My lessons combine clear structure and objectives with a relaxed, supportive atmosphere. Sessions are interactive and focused, encouraging students to think independently while developing the knowledge, confidence and exam skills needed to succeed.

I believe in coaching students towards their own conclusions through thoughtful questioning, discussion and guidance. At the same time, I take a pragmatic approach to ensure students are fully prepared for examinations and achieve their academic goals.

I am familiar with the major UK GCSE and A-Level specifications. Particular areas of interest include Democracy and Fascism, The Cold War and Vietnam, The Interwar Years, The Making of Modern Britain, and Russia 1894–1989.

I hold a BA (Hons) History degree from the University of Sussex and have over four years' experience tutoring History. I am also a qualified therapist, which helps me support students whose confidence, stress or exam anxiety may be affecting their studies.

Outside of tutoring, I'm a husband and father with a lifelong love of history, and I enjoy helping students discover the stories and ideas behind the facts.
