With experience tutoring GCSE maths one-to-one and confidence in tutoring French and English, I am passionate about helping create an environment where students feel comfortable to ask questions and fully make the most of their session to achieve their target grades. I have completed GCSEs and A levels gaining all A/A*s and 9/8s and am a current undergrad student at the University of Edinburgh studying Politics.
I believe tutoring is for all students who feel a bit of extra help can get them to their target grades, helping them improve from what level they are already at. I have flexible working hours and will work hard to ensure all lessons are planned beforehand in accordance with what the student wishes to cover as well as what I think will be useful.
I will use a variety of resources in the lessons including resources I have prepared and online tools to ensure lessons are engaging and useful, employing digital tools to practice active recall and more traditional tools to understand content. I have experience doing peer mentoring with GCSE students so understand the pressures of the exam period and so hope to make sure students feel secure with revising on their own and exam technique. This upcoming year I am going to be a PALS leader, which is part of a global initiative in universities to support students in courses with high drop out rate. As part of this I have undertaken a full day's training with the University of Edinburgh's students association to learn how to run sessions to support students with core modules, using interactive strategies to direct learning. I will use this training to promote the students own critical thinking skills and support them in identifying areas they would like to work on the most.
I hope not only to have a productive hour session but also to inspire and support effective revision outside of session times and to create a friendly environment to help students achieve the best they can.
