I have been teaching, both as a qualified TEFL teacher and as a high school English language and literature teacher since 2005.
My lessons are relaxed, with progress made quickly through a variety of tasks including written grammar, practising real life situations where speaking and listening is the focus. Feedback is given instantly.
I use a programme of study which I have written, using core curriculum guidance from City & Guilds.
Lessons are via online platforms, lasting one hour, with spoken English filling the majority of the time. Lessons are not restricted to grammar study, as I like to engage students in impromptu conversations about themselves and their hopes and dreams, whilst also encouraging them to ask questions of me.
I have taught in the UK and abroad, with students from different countries including Austria, Greece, China, Spain, Taiwan and Italy. I have been employed in schools abroad and at Summer schools here in England. Many of my students have been studying for international language exams and I am pleased to say that they have had 100% pass rate.
I have taught students who are in mainstream school in UK, but arrived here with no, or very little, English. Recent successes have been two students who, after 3 years of part time study with me, were able to sit and pass English language GCSE.
I build students' confidence by acknowledging effort and dedication and allowing them to identify their mistakes without criticism. Work is marked as we go and homework is issued in order to reinforce the day's learning.
