Dr Lara

I am an experienced academic with a PhD in Gender Studies, an MA in International Communication Studies, and a BA in Chinese Language and Culture. Over the past 15 years, I have worked in research and teaching roles across UK universities, most recently as the Course Leader for a BA programme in Asia Pacific Studies. My teaching experience spans a wide range of social science subjects, including sociology, anthropology, human geography, gender and migration studies, as well as research methods, study skills, and dissertation supervision.

I have successfully supervised BA, MA, and PhD students to completion and have mentored hundreds of students, offering both academic guidance and personal support. I have extensive experience in curriculum design, lecture and seminar delivery, assessment, and feedback. My teaching is research-informed and competence-based, aimed at helping students think critically, develop research and analytical skills, and strengthen their written and oral communication. By connecting theoretical perspectives to real-world contexts, I support students in becoming confident, independent learners.
