My lessons are built around a simple idea: piano should feel enjoyable while you're actually improving, not just ticking through pages of a book. Every session mixes hands-on playing with theory, so the learning sticks rather than being forgotten between lessons.

My lessons are built around a simple idea: piano should feel enjoyable while you're actually improving, not just ticking through pages of a book. Every session mixes hands-on playing with theory, so the learning sticks rather than being forgotten between lessons.
I start by understanding where a student is and what they enjoy, then tailor pieces and pace to that, whether it's a complete beginner working on posture and note reading, or a Grade 5 to 8 student preparing for an exam or competition. We work through technique, sight reading and musicality together, and I always explain the "why" behind an exercise, not just the "what", so progress feels understood rather than mechanical.
Between lessons, I give clear, specific practice guidance rather than a vague "practise this", and the following week we listen back together with constructive, honest feedback so students can hear their own improvement.
I've been playing for 14+ years and teaching for 6, with Distinctions across ABRSM Grades 1-8 and Grade 5 Theory, several piano competition wins, and a 100% pass rate across 40+ ABRSM exams to date. I hold an Enhanced DBS check, available on request.
Just as important to me is the relationship side of teaching. I keep communication open and honest with both student and parent, so goals stay clear and progress stays visible, which makes lessons more comfortable, more transparent, and ultimately faster to reach for everyone.
Lessons run 30 minutes to 2 hours, in person or online.
