My GCSE Biology lessons are structured but flexible, adapting to each student's needs and target grade. I typically begin by identifying which topics a student finds most challenging, then build lessons around strengthening that understanding before moving on to exam technique.
A typical session might include a recap of key concepts, working through exam-style questions together, and discussing common mistakes examiners look out for. I make use of past papers, mark schemes, and topic-specific resources aligned with the AQA, Edexcel and OCR specifications, so lessons stay relevant to each student's exam board. I focus on making sure students understand the 'why' behind a concept, rather than just memorising facts, as this makes it easier to apply knowledge to unfamiliar exam questions. Where helpful, I use diagrams, real-world examples, and simple analogies to make trickier topics, like genetics or photosynthesis, easier to grasp.
I am currently a Biomedical Sciences student at UCL, having achieved a 2:1 in my first year, with A-Levels in Maths, Biology and Chemistry and 8 GCSEs at grades A* to A. I have hands-on tutoring experience, having helped my younger brother improve to a grade 8 in GCSE Biology, and I currently mentor first-year university students, so I am comfortable adapting my teaching style to different learners.
Lessons are relaxed and encouraging, with regular homeworks & check-ins on progress so students always know where they stand and what to focus on next.
