Katy Humberstone

I am an enthusiastic linguist and educator, having recently submitted my PhD funded by the Arts and Humanities Research Council in the United Kingdom. I am passionate about creative and fun approaches to language learning, and enjoy creating interactive experiences to help language confidence and fluency. For my PhD, I studied cultural heritage, and really enjoy topics related to the arts, tourism, and culture. I have taught across all learner levels in languages, and to a variety of age groups.

My sessions are highly tailored to the needs of the student. I like to integrate a range of activities on topics that are useful and interesting to the student. I often create my own educational content and enjoy using digital tools to support learning and teaching. I integrate plenty of practical tasks so the student can see their learning in context. Fun fact: I am currently developing fun experiences in VR to support language learning across a number of languages!

I hold a BA (Hons) in French, Italian, and Spanish from the University of Exeter (1st class). I also hold an MA in Modern Languages and Cultures (specialising in Spanish) from the University of Sheffield. I have recently submitted my PhD in Hispanic Studies at the University of Exeter, and am currently completing my Associate Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (AFHEA) certification.

Overall, I have 6+ years' experience of tutoring languages. I have tutored French, Italian, Spanish, and ESL both online and at university level, to various ages and learner levels.
