Jia Yuan Liew

I am an A Level student at the National Maths and Science College in Coventry, a specialist school in Maths and Science, ranked 3rd in the UK. I achieved 10 A*s in my IGCSEs and 4 A*s in predicted A Levels, with a 2190 Band 2 in the UCAT. I want to pursue medicine at a top university, and I want to enhance my ability in tutoring and teaching.

I have tutored before, by creating GCSE Math Webinars on algebra, creating videos on GCSE Biology Protein Synthesis and Genetic Inheritance. Founded the college's Neuroscience society to teach Year 12 students Neuroscience material for British Neuroscience Olympiad, where I placed Top 50 in the UK, and the UK Brain Bee Olympiad.

I would work on the students' weaknesses and topics that they struggle more on, because I believe that focusing on areas of weakness is what makes students score better, rather than just focusing on what they are already good at. This means I will create presentations on weaker topics, and explain complex concepts in simpler explanations and use examples as well as visual aids such as hand-drawn diagrams. I would prefer if the students told me about this beforehand to allow me to prepare thoroughly for the best quality. I will then drill and question them, and answer further questions on what they didn't get, and to finish off, exercise them using exam questions. I believe this method of learning and then practising and reflecting will ensure the best possibility of high marks.
