My lessons are structured, conversational, and intellectually engaging, designed to help students understand complex ideas clearly while building confidence in their own thinking. I teach theology, philosophy, and history using a method that combines explanation, discussion, and close engagement with primary sources.

Each session normally begins with a short explanation of the topic to establish context and key concepts. From there we work through the material together, asking questions, examining sources, and clarifying arguments. Rather than simply memorising facts, students learn how ideas develop over time and how historical events, philosophical assumptions, and cultural movements influence one another. This approach helps students see the bigger picture and develop analytical skills that are valuable across many subjects.

In history lessons, we explore both major events and the deeper forces that shaped them—political decisions, social change, economic pressures, and the influence of ideas. This can include anything from ancient civilisations and medieval Europe to modern political developments. Theology and philosophy sessions likewise focus on understanding arguments, key thinkers, and the historical context in which ideas emerged.

Lessons are adapted to the student’s needs and level. Some students prefer a more structured approach focused on examination preparation, while others want a broader exploration of the subject. I aim to create an environment where students feel comfortable asking questions and engaging with challenging ideas.

My goal is not only to help students improve academically, but also to develop clarity of thought, confidence in discussion, and a deeper appreciation of history and the life of the mind.
