My lessons are structured, supportive, and tailored to each learner’s goals and starting point. I begin by identifying strengths and areas for development, then create a clear and focused plan to improve both subject knowledge and overall performance over time.
A typical session combines explanation, discussion, and guided practice. I break down complex topics into manageable steps, ensuring key ideas are fully understood before moving on. I use targeted questioning throughout to check understanding and encourage independent thinking, helping students to engage more actively with the subject. Where appropriate, I incorporate exam-style questions to develop technique, confidence, and familiarity with assessment requirements. There is a strong focus on producing clear, well-structured answers, particularly for GCSE and A-Level students where exam technique is critical.
I adapt my approach depending on the learner. School students may need support with core knowledge, revision strategies, or exam preparation, while higher-attaining students often benefit from refining their analytical writing and pushing towards top grades. I also work with adult learners and professionals, offering flexible, discussion-based sessions tailored to individual interests, professional development, or specific knowledge gaps.
With 6 years’ experience teaching humanities, I have a strong understanding of curriculum demands and what examiners are looking for. I am used to working with a wide range of abilities and tailoring my teaching to suit different learning styles, ensuring each session is both effective and engaging.
My aim is not only to improve results, but to build confidence, independence, and a genuine understanding of the subject, so learners feel more capable both in and beyond their studies.
