My lessons are structured, engaging and tailored carefully to each individual child. I begin by getting to know the learner – their strengths, areas for development, interests and any additional needs – so that sessions feel purposeful and personalised from the start.

Each session has a clear focus and outcome. For example, in English we may work on reading comprehension strategies, vocabulary development, spelling patterns or structured writing, breaking skills down into manageable steps. In maths, I prioritise strong number understanding, reasoning and problem-solving, using concrete resources, visuals and practical examples to secure understanding before moving to abstract methods.

Sessions typically follow a simple structure:
• A short warm-up or recap to revisit prior learning
• Explicit teaching or modelling of a new skill
• Guided practice with support
• Independent application
• Reflection and positive feedback

For children with SEN, I adapt pace, language and resources carefully. I use visual supports, chunked instructions, movement breaks where needed and consistent routines to create a calm and predictable environment. Building confidence is central to my teaching – many children need reassurance and small, achievable steps in order to feel successful.

With over 10 years of classroom experience across EYFS–KS2, I understand curriculum expectations, assessment frameworks and age-related standards. I also know that children learn best when they feel safe, understood and motivated. My qualities as a tutor include patience, warmth, clarity and high expectations delivered in a supportive way.

For home-educated learners, lessons can either follow the National Curriculum or be shaped around a more flexible, interest-led approach. I am happy to collaborate closely with parents to ensure tuition complements your child’s wider learning journey.

Ultimately, my aim is not only academic progress, but helping children leave each session feeling more confident, capable and positive about their learning.
