I strongly believe in finding a system that works for each new student and sticking to it. This means my approach begins with a short assessment to identify each student's strengths, weaknesses and preferred learning habits. From this, I create a learning plan and progress checklist that both the student and I can refer to. My aim is to make the maths and chemistry curricula less daunting by providing absolute clarity, while making consistent learning more enjoyable as students can see themselves improving in real time.
My lessons place a strong emphasis on explanations and practice questions that encourage independent thinking. This is particularly important in STEM subjects, where exams reward genuine understanding rather than simple memorisation. My aim is to help students develop a reliable mental framework that allows them to recognise patterns, identify relevant concepts, and work logically through new questions. Over time, this approach builds the confidence to tackle challenging problems independently, replacing the anxiety students often experience when faced with real exam questions with a clear sense of how to approach them.
Lessons are held online via Zoom and typically last an hour (I'm always happy to go a bit over if the student is stuck on a particular topic). I also strongly believe in feedbacking the students progress to parents/guardians as well as encouraging the students to complete personalised homework tasks to boost their progression.
