My English lessons are structured, focused, and always tailored to the individual student. I do not believe in a one-size-fits-all approach to tutoring — every student comes with a unique set of strengths, gaps, and learning habits, and my job is to understand those as quickly as possible so that every session counts. At the start of our tutoring relationship, I conduct a short diagnostic assessment to build a clear picture of where a student currently is and what they need to work on most urgently. From there, I design a personalised learning plan that gives our sessions direction and ensures we are always making measurable progress.
Lessons typically combine a range of activities to keep engagement high and cover all the skills the student needs. This includes close reading and comprehension work, analytical and creative writing practice, vocabulary development, spelling, and grammar. Past papers and exam-style questions are used regularly throughout so that students build genuine familiarity with the format, timing, and demands of the assessments they are working towards. I believe that exam confidence comes from practice, and I make sure students are exposed to real exam conditions well in advance of the actual test.
For 13+ entrance exam students, I place a particular emphasis on developing strong analytical writing skills. I use structured frameworks to teach students how to construct well-evidenced, insightful written responses to both literature and language tasks — moving them beyond surface-level observations towards genuine depth of analysis. For GCSE students, my sessions are closely aligned to the relevant exam board specification so that nothing is left uncovered and students feel fully prepared going into their exams.
I set homework after every session to consolidate what we have covered and keep momentum going between lessons. Every session is also followed by a written progress update sent directly to parents, outlining what we worked on, what went well, and what the student needs to focus on next. I believe that parents should always feel informed and involved in their child’s progress — open communication is a core part of how StudyBase operates.
My approach is patient, encouraging, and high-expectation. I hold every student to a high standard because I know what they are capable of, but I also take the time to build their confidence so that they believe in themselves too. Ultimately, my goal is not just to get students through their next exam — it is to help them develop a genuine love of English that will serve them long after the test is over.
