My lessons are structured, supportive and tailored to the individual student. I aim to make History feel manageable by breaking difficult topics and exam questions into clear, achievable steps.
A typical lesson might begin with a short retrieval activity to identify strengths and gaps in knowledge, followed by focused teaching on a particular topic or exam skill. I use modelling, guided practice and questioning to help students understand how strong answers are constructed before giving them the opportunity to practise independently.
For GCSE and A-Level students, I place a strong emphasis on exam technique, including essay structure, source analysis, interpretations and understanding exactly what the question is asking. I can also provide feedback on practice answers and help students identify specific ways to improve their marks.
I have experience teaching History across Key Stages 3, 4 and 5 and have worked with a wide range of abilities and learning needs. My approach is patient and encouraging, while still challenging students to develop greater independence and confidence.
Lessons can be adapted depending on what the student needs most, whether that is revising a particular topic, preparing for mocks or final exams, improving written answers, or simply becoming more confident with History.
