I aim to identify where a pupil is getting stuck, break the topic down into manageable steps and explain it calmly and clearly in a way that makes sense to them. I adopt a flexible approach and tailor my explanations to each pupil, as different people often need a topic presented in different ways.

For the first session, I normally ask pupils to bring some recent schoolwork and let me know which topics they are finding difficult. This gives us a clear starting point and helps me plan future sessions around the areas where they need the most support.

I prepare work for each lesson, but current schoolwork, upcoming tests and any specific difficulty the pupil wants to address will always take priority. Lessons can focus on improving general understanding of course material, keeping up with current coursework, revising difficult topics, preparing for assessments or developing exam technique.

I also revisit previous topics regularly so that any gaps in understanding can be identified and addressed. My aim is not simply to help pupils complete individual tasks, but to improve their understanding of the material, build their confidence and develop their ability to solve similar problems independently.

Lessons are interactive and I adjust the pace of our work according to the pupil’s needs. I encourage pupils to ask questions throughout, and where useful I work through examples with them before giving them similar problems to attempt independently. My goal is for pupils to understand the material fully and, ideally, begin to enjoy subjects they may previously have found difficult.

I have been tutoring since 2019 and now work full-time as a private tutor, working with school pupils, home-educated students and adult learners.
