Advert description
My name is Christopher and I am an experienced private tutor offering one-to-one tuition in Maths, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. I have been tutoring since 2019 and now work full-time as a private tutor, with many new students coming through word-of-mouth recommendations. I am a current PVG Scheme member for work with children.
My academic background is in Molecular Biology, with experience in Biochemistry and Microbiology. I previously carried out PhD research at Heriot-Watt University and hold a Postgraduate Diploma in Regenerative Medicine.
Subjects and levels:
• Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry up to Advanced Higher and A level
• Physics up to Higher and GCSE
• College Maths and Science courses, including University Access courses
I work with pupils from primary school through to S5 and S6, home-educated students and adult learners. Lessons can focus on course understanding, coursework, difficult topics, assessments and exam technique.
My approach:
I aim to identify where a pupil is getting stuck, break the topic down into manageable steps and explain it calmly and clearly in a way that makes sense to them. I tailor my explanations to each pupil, as different people often need topics presented in different ways.
For the first session, I normally ask pupils to bring recent schoolwork and tell me which topics they are finding difficult. This gives us a clear starting point. I prepare work for each lesson, while current schoolwork, upcoming tests and specific difficulties take priority.
My aim is to improve understanding, build confidence and develop pupils’ ability to solve similar problems independently.
Availability and lessons:
Tuition is available in person at the pupil’s home across West Lothian and nearby areas, or online. I travel to pupils for in-person lessons, with sessions available during the day, evenings and weekends.
Regular weekly sessions tend to lead to the most consistent progress, with the same time reserved for students each week.
I charge £35 for a one-hour weekly session.
I am currently accepting new pupils for this academic year. When contacting me, please include the subject and level, year group, location, preferred days and times, and any particular topics or concerns.
